In short

This website has no advertising, no cookies, no analytics and no fonts or scripts from third parties. Fonts, images and scripts are loaded from our own server. The only exception: the number of GitHub stars is retrieved directly from GitHub (see below).

Hosting and server log files

This website is operated by Mittwald CM Service GmbH & Co. KG, Königsberger Straße 4–6, 32339 Espelkamp, Germany, in data centres in Germany.

When you visit the website, your browser automatically transmits information that is stored in server log files: IP address, date and time of the request, the requested address, the previously visited page (referrer), browser type and version, and operating system. This data is technically necessary to deliver the website, to ensure its stability and security, and to fend off attacks. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR; my legitimate interest is the secure and error-free operation of the website. The log files are not merged with other data and are deleted automatically once the retention period set by the hosting provider has expired.

Cookies and local storage

This website does not set any cookies. The browser's localStorage is used only for the star counter: it holds the most recently retrieved number (not personal data) for one hour, so that GitHub does not have to be queried on every page view. You can delete this entry in your browser at any time.

GitHub star counter

On every page, the GitHub icon in the menu shows how many stars the project has on GitHub. To do so, your browser calls the public interface api.github.com. Your IP address is transmitted to GitHub in the process (GitHub Inc., 88 Colin P. Kelly Jr. Street, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA; for the EEA, GitHub B.V., Amsterdam). GitHub is part of Microsoft and certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR; my legitimate interest is showing how popular the project is. GitHub's privacy policy applies.

Links to other websites

This website contains plain links to GitHub, the Visual Studio Marketplace, ducklake.select, duckdb.org and Wikipedia. They are not embedded plugins: you only reach the respective provider's website once you click a link, and that provider's privacy policy applies there.

Contact by email

If you contact me by email, I process your details (for example name, email address and the content of your message) to handle your request. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR; my legitimate interest is answering your request. I delete the data as soon as it is no longer required for this purpose and no statutory retention obligations apply.

Your rights

You have the following rights against me regarding your personal data:

Where I process data on the basis of Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, you may object to this processing at any time on grounds relating to your particular situation. For this and any other concerns, please contact info@thejoyofdata.de.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR). The competent authority is the Hessian Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (Hessischer Beauftragte für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit), Gustav-Stresemann-Ring 1, 65189 Wiesbaden, Germany.

SSL/TLS encryption

For security reasons, this website uses SSL/TLS encryption. You can recognise an encrypted connection by “https://” in your browser's address bar.
